I must ashamedly tell you…I’m a gift klutz.  I guess it’s not really that I’m bad about the presenting part, itself.  Whenever it is gift-giving time, it just takes me an extremely long time to move beyond the decision stage.  I don’t know why my ideas seem to me to lack any originality.  I’m sure you’ve already discovered the solution to my despair: the Web.

The Internet is full of the usual and the unusual when it comes to gift suggestions.  Of course I know that a lot of the people making suggestions are actually trying to get me to spend my hard earned money.  Actually, I don’t even object to that.  I figure if someone can help me solve my gift quandry, then they deserve to make a profit from my purchase.  I’m an American, and we think of that as patriotism.

Where else except the Internet could I have learned that I could get my mother a New York cheesecake instead of the same boring chocolate cake I usually sent her?  Fortunately, I can stretch this one idea out for many years simply by changing the flavor of cheesecake from one birthday to the next.

My sister-in-law has my same decision making problem.  She went online and discovered a bracelet idea for her grandmother (on the good side of the family–not mine).  While it turned out well for her, it made me jealous!

Everyone has a story about their mother. Mothers are as different as their unique personalities. Some are patient and kind. Some are loud and obnoxious. Others are very opinionated. Mistakes are made. Often, all a mother can do is guide the child to learn from their mistakes; to make better decisions; to accept that her child is not perfect. In this stage of motherhood, her love needs to be very forgiving and understanding.

The child who becomes an adult understands and appreciates the love their mother has shown them over the years. They realize she has been their biggest fan; their strongest support; their best teacher; their most sincere critic. The mother of an adult child finally sees that her sacrifices and efforts in raising her child were not in vain. The love she has for her adult child is full of pride.

There is a special bond formed by mother and child once the child becomes a parent. The mother’s ever-changing role is now defined as “Grandmother”. This woman’s love has come full circle now because she understands the challenges her child will face in raising a child. She knows the rewards her child will receive.
