Sozopol, Bulgaria
Sozopol is one of the most attractive spots on the Bulgarian Black Sea coast. Along with Nessebar, about 60 km to the north, Sozopol offers a combination of old-style architecture, cobblestone streets lined with picturesque houses, and numerous restaurants and coffee shops. This abundance is positioned on the top of high cliffs overlooking the Black Sea. The old town of Sozopol is declared an architectural and archaeological preserve. The town is quite old even by European standards dating back to the 5th millennium b.c. The town was restored in 610 b.c. and was named Apolonia. It was developed as a trades and harbor center. In the old town of Sozopol, there are preserved churches, chapels, typical wooden houses, and a fort wall.
