How is Morbid Obesity Defined?
A critical step in dealing with excessive weight is to first understand the definition of morbid obesity. The reason obviously is how can you deal with something if you do not know what you are really dealing with. With the diversity of people it can be a challenge to develop a meaningful definition of morbid obesity. To take a general definition and plug it in to a specific situation can be as destructive as having no definition at all.
Perhaps the best way to get an understanding of the definition of morbid obesity and whether it applies to you or a loved one is to understand that it involves a variety of subjective variables such as eating habits, exercise habits and age.
Does the Definition of Morbid Obesity Fit You ?
Although it is not a very pretty term it is critically important to know if you fall into the definition of morbid obesity. According to the National Institute of Health, the definition of morbid obesity occurs at 20 percent above the ideal body weight.
The definition of morbid obesity has become a more important issue today than ever before, because so many people, especially in North America, are by the NIH definition morbidly obese. The next generation is going to be even more obese if we continue on the path that we are on.
However, meeting this requirement of this definition of morbid obesity doesn’t inconclusively mean a person is indeed morbidly obese. Someone in a wheelchair could be morbidly obese yet be way under this criterion while a professional athlete may not be obese at all yet easily fitting the criterion, for instance. Although a good general rule of thumb the NIH definition of morbid obesity is not enough.
Let’s look at some variables that might better be used to help with the morbid obesity :
1) You may be at or dangerously close to morbid obesity if you are having health problems caused by your weight . If this is the case you are going to want to start as soon as possible to get your weight down. There are a number of very different and successful weight loss methods available to try to help lose any unwanted pounds. It may take a little work but you can get there and enjoy a healthy weight.
To lose weight in such a way that you will be able to keep it off for a long time is the most important thing. Short term diet fads may succeed at getting some weight off initially, but they will usually not keep it off and unfortunately most folks will end up putting more pounds back on in the end.
2) Are you exercising enough? Enough exercise should be done each day to burn off any excess calories. For this reason part of the definition of morbid obesity probably should factor in the level of exercise a person gets. Our increasingly inactive lifestyle makes this a crucial element in determining obesity.
3) When defining obesity it seems that mental or psychological factors must also be part of the morbid obesity . How we see ourselves will affect our behavior and is often determined by our mental health. We probably won’t be healthy physically if we are not healthy mentally.
In conclusion, if any of these three simple criteria applies to someone then there is a good possibility that person would fit the definition of morbid obesity . Morbid obesity is not to be ignored and it could be fatal if action is not taken. As we have developed this definition of morbid obesity it is obvious that it all revolves around lifestyle and lifestyle decisions that every individual must make and in the case of obesity it often requires some tough changes that can only be identified by applying a correct understanding of the definition of morbid obesity.

Is it safe to feed your Baby Milk?
Cow’s milk seems to be one of mankind’s biggest dietary mistakes. The more we discover how it affects our bodies the less we have to be grateful for. For decades, cow’s milk was promoted as the “perfect food” for humans and distinctly for kids. Does this make sense?
The milk from all species of mammal is unique and particularly tailored to the necessities of that animal. Cow’s milk is planned by nature to stimulate the development of a rumen in the young cow’s digestive system. The rumen is similar too a fermenting vat with a great amount of bacteria that is necessary to breakdown huge amounts of fiber in the cow’s diet. Cow’s milk contains several factors designed too encourage bacterial growth in the intestines. People, on the other hand, have a nearly sterile small intestine. Human milk, explicitly intended for humans, has substances that prohibit intestinal bacterial growth.
People are exposed to milk in infancy and the long-term damage from drinking cow’s milk begins then. Being subjected to milk, during the early years of life, contributes to intolerances, extreme sensitivity and hinderance with absorption. The human baby is not able to convert cow’s milk into an absorbable form and this results in damage to the bowel mucosa. Infants that take in cow’s milk have small but major effects of blood loss from their digestive tracts. This bloodletting contributes to iron deficiency and anemia. Health problems such as childhood diabetes, obesity, bowel disease, colic and ear infections are all linked too the consumption of milk in infancy.
One out of every five babies endures colic. Pediatricians learned long ago that the consumption of cow’s milk was often the problem. We now understand that nursing mothers can also have a colicky baby if the mother consumes cow’s milk.
Cow’s milk is not only detrimental to young children but it is also detrimental to mature people. The proteins in the cow’s milk contributes too problems with digestion, intolerance, impaired assimilation of other nourishing substances and autoimmune responses. Many adults are lactose intolerant. This is because once we are weaned off breast milk our body stops production of lactase, the enzyme that helps us to digest lactose.
Dairy products add lots of cholesterol and fat to one’s diet. A high cholesterol and high fat diet is linked with heart disease and other health problems. Ovarian cancer is also linked to milk consumption. The sugar found in milk referred to as lactose is broken down to another sugar called galactose. This sugar influences a woman’s ovaries and expands her risk of acquiring ovarian cancer.
Humans are the only animals that consume another animal’s milk and to make issues worse we consume it into adulthood. Female mammals create milk to supply as food and nourish their young. Once the infant can move on to solid foods and it is taken off the mother’s milk it no longer drinks milk.
Much healthier choices for human consumption are the liquids drawn from various plants and manufactured into milk. These may come from nuts, grains, seeds or fruits. Several of these milks have been around for thousands of years in different locations around the world. Well recognized are soy, rice, almond and coconut milk.

Saturated Fats and Trans Fats as the Major Culprit of Cholesterol You Should Understand
If you are suffering from cholesterol problem, what you need to get is ideal management on its kind of disease. However, before understanding better how to handle it well, what you need to comprehend is the culprit and kind of cholesterol.
Definitely, cholesterol is steroids and alcohol combined. This combination is referred to as sterol. Furthermore, it is also a fat that is called a lipid. Most of the substance that we have in our bodies is produced by the liver. The remaining quantities are as a matter of fact ingested from the foods that we eat.
Saturated Fats and Trans Fats as the Main Cause of Cholesterol
Saturated fat is the main trigger from the elevated cholesterol level. The saturated fat triggers to produce too much amount of this substance. The other fat is trans fats which also has the similar type of effect.
This sort of bad substance is also contained in animal foods. There is none of it in veggies and other plant foods. When in fat form the cholesterol does not dissolve in blood. Thus, you need to use several other substances to get the fatty cholesterol to dissolve. That is where lipoproteins take its vital role.
Lipoproteins are special kind of carriers. They can either be low-density lipoprotein (LDL) or high-density lipoprotein (HDL) with the former being bad for the body while the latter is good for the body.
The major carrier of bad cholesterol is LDL. When its level rises, the walls of your arteries may fill with plaque that will cause a reduction of the arteries. This in turn will ruin free flow of blood to crucial parts of the body.
When blood does not reach vital organs including the heart, you can be in jeopardy of experiencing a heart attack or stroke. You will need to keep the levels of cholesterol at under 100 mg/dl to enjoy good health.
Alternatively, HDL or high-density lipoproteins will return cholesterol to the liver where it can be excreted. Therefore, there is less opportunity of plaque build-up in the arteries, which shows lower health peril.
It follows then that to get pleasure in good health you need more HDL and less LDL cholesterol. The best technique to raise HDL is through work out and by getting rid of or drastically lowering intake of fats, more particularly saturated fats and Trans fats.
By recognizing the difference of LDL and HDL, then you could conclude that not all cholesterol is detreminal. What you need to do then is increasing the amount of good HDL and lessen the amount of your LDL.

Is there too much emphasis on obesity in society?
Maybe it’s just me but I am getting really sick of being guilt tripped about health and fitness. The other week I was round at a friend’s place and had a go on Wii fit, a game which up until that point I had avoided like the plague. Now don’t get me wrong, I understand that keeping fit and staying healthy is important. But as far as I could see the game was just a way for Nintendo to make money out of you doing something you’d probably already be doing.
I’d heard from a lot of people that Wii fit makes you think you’re far more unfit than you really are, and sure enough when I stepped (with some trepidation) onto the scales the game told me that I was very overweight. Now, I don’t claim to be the picture of perfect fitness – I’m not supermodel skinny and although I do get regular exercise and eat healthily most of the time, I know I could be fitter. But I’m not fat, and I’m definitely not obese. It’s hardly surprising there have been so many complaints about Wii fit, when you think how many people already have body issues thanks to the media constantly telling us that we should all have a figure like Kate Moss or Angelina Jolie.
It’s true that obesity is a problem in society, especially amongst children and young people, but is making everyone feel bad about themselves really the way to deal with it? The latest scheme being tested in Liverpool is to prevent it before it becomes an issue, by giving all children under five free gym memberships. The existing system of free memberships for school children is one thing, but surely under fives should be getting all their necessary exercise from their normal daily play? And if not then perhaps the real issue in society is not overweight children, but the question of why these children are not able to play as they should anymore.
As for me, Wii fit succeeded in making me feel guilty for all of five minutes. Then I remembered my healthy diet, regular exercise and that I make sure I don’t drink too much or eat fast food, and realised that I don’t have anything to feel guilty about. And I’ve since found a brilliant new way of staying fit without taking too much time out of my routine – FitFlops. Flip flops that are made to give you a workout and help tone your legs as you go about your day – genius!
