Desgin Your Space with Photos

In most interiors art photographs are brought in as the finishing touch.
It’s one of the elements that can instantly warm up a space and make it feel like home.
Photographs can expand a space both visually and emotionally, give us a window to the world, bring interest and color to the wall spaces, and generally liven up the place.
Concise hints as to how photographs are to be arranged in a room is presented here.
In general, photographs should be hung so that the center point of the photograph or grouping is at about eye level for the average person. While this won’t be possible in every situation,
it’s a good guideline to keep in mind.

Size and Grouping
• Relate photograph to wall size. Choose smaller pictures for narrow walls and larger works for big wall spaces.
• Relate photograph to furniture size. When hanging a framed photograph over a piece of furniture it should not be longer than the width of the furniture.
• Don’t hang the photographs too close to each other or you will end up with a cluttered look. Don’t hang them too far apart or you’ll lose that unified look.
• Proper use of line can set the mood in a room:
– Strong horizontal lines in photograph, or in the way it is hung, tend to be calming and can give the illusion of width in a narrow room.
– Strong vertical lines in a photograph or in the arrangement on the wall add to the feeling of height in a room.
– Strong diagonal lines either within a photograph itself or in a line of photographs arranged on the wall add drama and excitement.
For creating either a formal or a casual feeling, one has the option to use symmetrical or asymmetrical arrangements of photographs. Symmetry adds balance and formality to an arrangement and is generally pleasing and calming to the observer.
• A grouping of photographs should be thought of as one unit.
• One large photograph makes a statement and keeps things simple.
• A number of photographs framed in one mat and frame will have more impact.

Themes
• Support your room theme with photographs, repeating the colors, motifs, and style of the room’s interior.
• Landscape photographs visually open up a smaller space. The view of a distant horizon acts as a sort of window.

Color
• Vibrant colors bring excitement to a room, neutral colors are more calming.
Photographs will have greater impact if they are matted in a contrasting color with that of the wall. If it’s a light wall then choose a dark mat and for a dark wall, go for a light mat.

Framing
Only those frame colors and styles should be chosen that goes with the style of your home.
Using the same mat and frame will harmonize a set of photographs.

Lighting
• Illuminate photographs well. It can be lost unless it’s lit well enough.
One can use a picture light, track lighting or recessed lighting depending on a given place.

Hanging
• Hang photographs securely. Rate picture hooks for the weight of the framed photograph.

Care of Photographs
• Never hang photograph in direct sunlight: it can fade.
• Never hang photograph above a working fireplace.
• Never hang photograph on an exterior wall without adequate insulation: it can dampen.
Humidity and room temperature should be kept constant.
Yellowing will occur if mat boards and adhesives used are not acid-free.

Capturing those precious memories

Many of us have many treasured photo albums that with just the flip of a page allows us to walk once more down paths that we have long since traversed. Dipping in and out of memories as though it all happened only yesterday – until we realise abruptly that our treasured memories are, in fact, from years ago, and we no longer remember where that snap shot was taken, or what year is encapsulated there in paper form. Though it is quick and easy to write a brief note upon the back of our photographs, logging all of your photographs, each one of them in a scrapbook is the best way to rekindle those special memories.

The use of scrapbooks is a wonderful way for raising the storage of photographs and other memorabilia up to a more personal level. There is little doubt that retaining keepsakes from important events or occasions is the ideal way to recapture the essence of a particular moment once it has passed us by in time, but it is only in using a scrapbook that the story really comes to life. Our precious memories are so often found withering in old shoeboxes and forming confused bundles, where their special meaning fades. We can suffuse our memories with life once more and pass on the joy we once shared to the generation next by gathering all the memories into a scrapbook.

A scrapbook is nothing less than our own storybook, where one can store particular items that capture the meaning behind the memories. The straw you kept from your very first date with the man you’ve now been married to for over twenty years, that’s a precious memory, but think how the memory of that date comes alive when you scrapbook that straw with a photograph of the new couple, and include your thoughts from that special night. How much more meaningful does this memento become to your children and your children’s children when it is conveyed as a part of the whole story of your love? A not so significant small plastic tube found at the bottom of an old box has now become a living memory, conveying far more than you ever thought it could do.

Storing your memories can be done in the most precious and personal way in a scrapbook. Don’t keep your life to yourself; share it with a scrapbook that will allow you to relive your memories through the eyes of others.

Best Compact Digital Cameras

Did you enjoy this article? Curious about Dominating Digital Photography? Well now you can by Discovering this Digital Photography Blog…what are you waiting for?

Small is powerful, small is a revolution- this is the idea of the technology followed by the compact digital cameras. As the world is getting more and more fast, people want their gadgets to be handy. And, digital cameras are no exception to this. Because of these new consumer requirements the compact digital camera was conceived.

It can arguably be said that digital technology is the most revolutionary discovery in the field of photography. It has attracted the world by producing high quality images in limited cost. The compact digital cameras are comparatively smaller in size and have added many special features to their name. They are, no doubt, one step ahead the digital SLR cameras or any other camera models.

The standard proportions of compact digital cameras can roughly be 3.5 W x 2.5 H x 1.0 D. Depending on the type, the model and the brand of your compact digital camera these dimensions can vary a little. The ideal compact digital camera must have the certified label of Jeanspocket on it. A compact camera with this trademark is so compact that you can keep it in the pocket of your jeans, comfortably. It is a newer striking criterion added to the compact digital cams by fast generation of today.

The goal behind compact digital cameras is to make photography simple and easy with no cumbersome cameras.

There are many plus points in the compact digital cameras, apart from their small size. Typical features of compact digital cameras include multiple scenes, optical zooms, exposure modes and other handy functions. It is important to note that some compact digital cameras, having 11 mm or less diagonal sensors make fairly low noise at ISO 100. But, at ISO 400 and above, the noise of the camera can be quite bothering. Some compact digital cameras are so small to look at, that they demand a close look from those who wish to buy them.

The range of $200 to $500 includes the most popular selections of the compact and ultra-compact digital cameras. All the brands of compact digital cams offer a vast array of exciting functions and features. Sensor resolutions vary from 3.0 to 8.0 mega pixels and possibly more. The ultra-compact models are the size of a credit card. They are just less than an inch thick and are equipped with advanced features and high-resolution sensors. Advanced controls include such features as multiple AF zones, manual settings and sophisticated scene modes.

It would be short sighted of me to not include the drawbacks of compact digital cameras as well as the benefits. As the sensitivity of a digital camera can be calculated through ISO, the ISO range of a compact digital camera varies between ISO 50 and 400. While, on the other hand, the ISO range of a digital SLR camera can range from ISO 100 to1600. As you can see compact digital cameras are less sensitive than digital SLR cameras.

There have been vast improvements in the field of compact digital cameras, as opposed to digital SLR cameras. The best bet is to figure out your needs after looking at the pros and cons for each type of camera.

Digital Photography Tips – Five Great Points To Shoot That Portrait

Did you like this video? Curious about earning money with your digital camera? Find out you can by visiting this blog…what are you waiting for?

Portrait photography is the most popular form of photography. Most people who know how to point and shoot a camera are all portrait photographers. However, there are of course, differences in its quality. Professional portrait photographers have certain characteristics that let them get the best out of their subjects. A portrait photo does not only mean a person’s image. In a way, it shows character and emotion. If you want to start shooting portraits and don’t know the essential elements, fear no more because these five tips can give you a head start.

Rapport: Building rapport with your subject is the firs thing that you should learn. Interest in knowing your subjects is a plus. If you get to know your subject and they know you, your they will become more comfortable in front of the camera. When the shoot comes, you have better chances of getting the best natural expressions of the people you are photographing.

Personality: A great photo brings out the personality of the model. You will only know this if you know the person. Make sure that their personality shows in their faces. Personality usually appears when the subject is not expecting a shot, so you have to be ready to take the picture when the opportunity comes.

Lighting: Most photographers prefer natural lighting. However since you want to emphasize the person’s face and character, you should always consider using artificial lighting. Be sure that light is evenly distributed, or that it satisfies the angle that you want to emphasize. Lighting can have a great effect especially if your they want a serious picture.

Background: Most portraits have light backgrounds to emphasize the subject. You can also use the environment to add more character to your subject. Please be careful when using the environment that the color of your background and what your subject is wearing do not clash. Sometimes backgrounds become the flaw of a picture because the photographer took it for granted.

Plan: Be sure that you are ready before you go to the photo shoot. Not only that you have all the equipment that you need, but be sure that you can handle the job properly. Prepare all the necessary materials and be sure to bring a good topic for conversation so that your subject can relax while you are shooting.

Portrait photography is a really enjoyable hobby. It can also be a profitable venture as long as you take the time to perfect your craft. However, remember that you should have the heart for the job because portrait photography’s first requirement is interest.

Some Really Good Digital Camera Buying Tricks

You can generally find any cameras manual in an online format, by simply Googling the manufacturers website. Reading camera reviews and articles from well respected websites can then help you determine which of those specifications are meaningful.

Online photography discussion forums can be an invaluable source of assistance as well. Find a few, and search them for the make and model of cameras your considering. Chances are, someone else has asked the same questions you have, and you can benefit from the answers they’ve received.

With digital cameras, it’s generally megapixels. I’ve said it before, and I’ll say it again – “pay no attention to the megapixel ratings of any camera you look at”. It just doesn’t matter anymore. They pretty much all have 6MP or over, and that’s plenty for 90% of all photographers. This digital camera accessories bargains and this digital ready camera should help.

Canon is the most prolific camera maker today. Part of that reason, is they cater to every level of photographer. From absolute novice to seasoned professional. That’s also why they sell more cameras and camera lenses than anyone else.

Which is fortunate, as it really helps framing your shots better than a LCD, and can considerably save on batteries when you turn the LCD off. If your going to use the full 6x zoom, I would recommending a decent tripod. As with many cameras in this category, there is a delay in between taking pictures when using the flash. Usually around five seconds. Inconvenient to be sure, but hard to get away with out spending a bit more money.

So you’ve had it with slow compact point and shoot cameras with average picture quality, and are looking to move into the realm of SLR photography. Cool, because my third pick for best canon digital camera, is the Canon EOS 40D.

The right digital camera can make all the difference, when it comes to capturing those fleeting memories. Luckily for us, there are plenty of good ones to choose from.

Those same trends have have also pushed manufactures and retail establishments to be highly competitive in both design and pricing. That’s something that can only benefit the consumer. In a couple of ways actually. Not only do you have a bevy of choices, but the vast majority of those SLR choices are really good cameras. Long story short . . . it’s hard to go wrong in this category.

How to Take better Candid Photos

Taking photos of people fall in to two categories. They are candid shots or portraits.

Portraits of course are the shots you take when your subject is striking a pose. While the candids are when your subject is doing things naturally.

I would like to focus on taking candid shots. This form of photography is an art form, and if you take these few steps, you will be happy with your work.  This is from my experience as a San Diego Photographer.

First off, don’t get in their way.Of course most of the candid shots will be people minding their own business, but the secret to taking a great photo is to make sure they don’t know of you taking the shot.

Because often times, when they do notice you, you are going to miss the essence of catching an unguarded shot.So be diligent in making sure they don’t know about the camera.

Another thing to think about is the environment or the setting. When you are going to take candid photos, the environment plays a big role. You want the candid photo to be able to capture the subject in their setting as natural as possible.  It’s that setting
whether is is their house, their work, or the street they are on, will tell a story about your subject’s life.  This is especially important if you are going to be taking shots as a Wedding Photographer San Diego.

A third thing to consider or do is anticipating behavior. An important part of taking candid shots of people acting naturally is to know what your subject may do next in a given situation.

This will be beneficial to you if you are trying to catch a particular moment because you will be ready rather than miss the shot.  Knowing how they will react and being able to capture that is all about anticipation.

Finally, always be on the lookout for those moments when a person’s emotion will be expressed.Because if you think about it, when you take these photos, the main thing is trying to capture their emotions in these shots.

Take a look at what your subject is doing and think about whether or not it’s a moment that will express an emotion.Such as an expression of impatience at a stoplight.  Or a joyous expression at an event. All moments in time give you the opportunity to truly capture an emotion.  Being prepared for those moments will help you capture and tell that story in that moment of time.

Taking candid shots is definitely an art form.  Especially if you truly want to tell a story in your candid shots. Following these few simple steps will help you be on the road of capturing as many storytelling moments as possible as a photographer.

Studio Photo Lighting

Photo Lighting

In photography, the skill of the photographer along with an understanding of angles and utilizing available lighting sources.

For newer or intermediate photographer’s to be able to produce better photo’s, particularly indoor photo’s can depend on what type of photography studio equipment they choose to use.Items such as types of studio lighting that could be needed, whether strobe flash or continuous lighting.  Along with other equipment to consider, such as a background or backdrop for instance if they wanted to produce portraits or product shots.

For portraits many photographer’s, in particular professional photographer’s at pro studio’s use either a strobe flash light fastened onto a light stand along with an umbrella or a soft box to diffuse the lighting and possibly a separate backlight to eliminate shadowing.  Or they will choose to go with a full photo lighting studio equipment package with multiple strobe lights and a backdrop. When using flash lighting, the results produced can be amazing. If using flash though, this requires the photographer to sync their camera in time with the flash so the shots are captured with perfect timing.

Beginning photographer’s sometimes find it much easier to go with continuous lighting instead initially because it gives them the light that they need without having to sync their camera with a flash light or flash lighting kit to get the desired result.  The most well known types of photography equipment for continuous lighting are halogen, sometimes referred to as tungsten lighting and fluorescent lighting.

Fluorescent lighting is considered by many to be the best available continuous lighting source that you can use for still photography or video production.  One of the features of fluorescent lighting is the coolness that they operate with.Fluorescent photo lighting or video units are both economical and can produce the simulation of daylight while producing nearly no heat.

Halogen or tungsten lighting can produce great results as well, however if you are in a smaller studio or in a room in your home, the heat generated by these halogen lights will certainly warm up the scene literally without proper ventilation.Regardless of the type of accessories and lighting photographers decide on.  The marked improvement of photo quality that can be produced with additional photography equipment can change what might be an ordinary photograph into a professional quality photo
